This report has been updated to include the following information:
A total of 4,072 men aged 18 and older who received a prescription for erectile dysfunction drugs (including Vardenafil and Levitra) between April 1, 2011, and December 31, 2020, in the U. S. were randomly assigned to receive one of three treatment arms: placebo (n = 4,092), Vardenafil (n = 4,092), or both. These men were excluded from the study, and the men who were unable to receive the treatment were excluded from the analysis.
The men in the study who were unable to take the medication were excluded from the analysis.
The primary efficacy endpoints included the primary secondary endpoints (e.g., satisfaction with treatment, duration of erection, and duration of sexual intercourse, and frequency of orgasm) and were the frequency of treatment attempts during the 3 months prior to enrollment.
The study was not randomized. Men were administered the study medication with a prescription from a licensed medical practitioner. Men were also administered the medication at home without consulting a medical practitioner. A pharmacist or other healthcare provider was present when the men took the study medication.
The men received treatment with the study medication at home, without consulting a medical practitioner, and continued to receive treatment at a rate of 1.0 mg/day over a 3-month period. For the men who had a prescription for ED medication, the men who received the study medication were administered one of three treatment groups: placebo (n = 605), Vardenafil (n = 605), or both (n = 605). The men who received the study medication were then randomized to receive either Vardenafil or either of the study medication group.
Patients who took Vardenafil or Levitra in addition to the study medication were excluded from the analysis.
In addition, the analysis did not include a subgroup of men who took the study medication at home, without consulting a medical practitioner, to determine if there were any differences between the treatment groups in the frequency of treatment attempts during the 3 months prior to enrollment.
In addition, a review of the data presented has not been completed and is subject to changes in the content of this report.
In March 2020, the FDA announced that the FDA had suspended the use of these drugs in the United States, and the information provided for the suspension was updated to include the following:
